For plenty of years I was living in just one city. In fact, it was the same city where I was born, where I made first friends, went to first school, where I met my first boyfriend etc.. This small city in which I grew up seemed to me to be the whole universe. Back then I probably couldn’t imagine any other town. To be honest, I didn’t even think that they exist. Surely, I was seeing them in television and so forth. Unluckily, they seemed to be so unreal that they were quite abstract, tgus didn’t even seem to me like to be actual places.
I hadn’t been on for holiday thus didn’t visit any place different than my small town. I know that it can sound a bit ridiculous but It was almost twenty five years ago, so I believe that it was quite typical situation these days in our country. Specially for children like me – children born not in a big city, as well as in rather poor family. After many years of living in the same town, I finally got a chance to travel.
And you might not believe me, but when I started, I just couldn’t stop. I was travelling for last twenty years. I have visited each the continents and almost 50 countries in total. Some of these places I visited just as a typical backpacker, but in some of them I was really living for a while. Certainly, this way of life has plenty of advantages. I was able to meet plenty of new men and women, know various cultures, become familiar with a lot of different cities and their history and so forth. Most of my colleagues keep on saying how jealous they are about this. But frequently I have this thought that too often they forget that moving to new places has also many disadvantages.
These days, it is not that bad. When you move to new city, you can easily find very detailed info about almost anything you like, for instance, where to hire a motorbike in padova or where to print in nyc. But just imagine to find this kind of things few years ago, when internet was not so famous yet. I remember that sometime this was even not easy for me to find out where I can find cheap but decent meal. I do believe, that the most tiring part of moving into new places is to become familiar with new place, surrounding and so on. However, I do like it the most at the same time.
